Solar for housing societies: cut common-area bills
How societies and RWAs can power lifts, pumps and lighting with rooftop solar.
Lifts, water pumps, corridor lights and gate systems run on the society's common meter, and those bills are shared by every member. A rooftop plant on the terrace can cut them sharply.
Why it works
- Large, unshaded terraces that are otherwise unused.
- Daytime loads such as pumps and lighting in common areas.
- Savings shared by all members, reducing maintenance charges.
Central support for societies
Group housing societies and resident welfare associations can receive central financial assistance for rooftop solar serving common facilities, including EV charging, under the PM Surya Ghar scheme. Amounts and capacity limits are notified on the national portal; check pmsuryaghar.gov.in for current figures.
How to get started
- Share the last 12 months of common-meter bills.
- We survey the terrace and present a proposal at your committee meeting.
- The general body approves; we handle approvals, installation and net metering.
